The Governance

The Franciscan Path Route is the result of a partnership initiative between several public and private institutions in Vale do Mucuri and in the municipalities of Teófilo Otoni and Itambacuri. The Project was born in 2019 with the aim of offering visitors the possibility of getting to know a part of the Valley through the experience of a pilgrimage, adventure, or simply a walk to contemplate nature.

The Route connects the Church of São Francisco de Assis, in the Jardim das Acácias neighborhood in Teófilo Otoni, to the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora dos Anjos, in Itambacuri, passing through rural communities and providing the pilgrim's interaction with religious, residents and local entrepreneurs.

The Project is led by a Management Committee, which has the role of helping the implementation and consolidation of the Route through solid partnerships between SEBRAE Minas, the Municipality of Teófilo Otoni, the Municipality of Itambacuri, the Tourist Circuit of Pedras Preciosas , the São Francisco de Assis Parish and the Nossa Senhora dos Anjos Parish.



It also has the support of the Sindcomércio de Teófilo Otoni, CDLs of Teófilo Otoni and Itambacuri, Emater, the Mucuri River Basin Committee, COMTUR – Municipal Tourism Council of Teófilo Otoni and residents of the cities involved.

The goals

To recover and preserve the historical, ethnographic and ecological value of the arrival of Franciscan religious to the region, in Vale do Mucuri.Offer a new tourist product in the Circuito das Pedras Preciosas. pilgrimage for visitors and residents. Promote access and expand opportunities for entrepreneurs and local communities. Make new experiences possible for tourists, combining landscape, spiritual, sensory and visual experiences, intellectual stimulation, awakening new feelings.
