The starting point of the Franciscan Paths Route is the Church of São Francisco de Assis, which welcomes pilgrims with great joy and hospitality to bless the beginning of the journey of faith and devotion.
Schedule the start time of your walk or pedal with the Church Secretary, deliver the registration form to collect the Pilgrim's Passport and receive the blessing of Saint Francis of Assisi to accompany your journey.
If your departure is from Itambacuri, from the Nossa Senhora dos Anjos Sanctuary, the final welcome will be at the Church of São Francisco de Assis, with the delivery of the certificate of completion and a souvenir of the Franciscan Ways, in addition to the welcome with the prayer of San Francisco , a special moment that symbolizes the completion of the spiritual pilgrimage.

In the Swiss Community II, which celebrates Sant'Ana, grandmother of Jesus, a group of women artisans welcome visitors with simplicity and sympathy in the simple community hall. Basketry crafts made with bamboo fiber are presented at the venue, a technique passed on from generation to generation from mothers to daughters, who create lamps, cachepots, baskets and much more.

The typical little bar in the countryside, in a rural community, is the food and support point for pilgrims and cyclists on the Franciscan Ways.
With simplicity and good food, visitors are welcomed at Bar da Taís, which offers homemade dishes with sun-dried meat or rump with cassava, tutu of beans, rice, salad, fruits and natural juice, or options such as portions or freshly made pastries.

In more than eight centuries, Santo Antônio gained thousands of devotees all over the world. In 1220, the young Ferdinand of the Order of Canons Regular decided to turn his life around: he left the Order of Augustinians to follow in the footsteps of another young man named Francis and from Assisi, Italy.
In the Community of Capitólio, the small Church of Santo Antônio is a place of prayer and also a point of support for pilgrims and cyclists.

The friendly couple Joaquim and Rosângela offer welcome, meals and overnight at the house where they live in the São Mateus Community.
Lunch from the countryside cooked on the wood stove or coffee with rural delicacies is served in the shade of the trees on the site.

Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Angels

The grandiose Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora dos Anjos is the final point of the pilgrimage of the Franciscan Ways. In it, pilgrims will be welcomed in the place where the Capuchin Friars Minor live, who arrived in Itambacuri in 1873.
Pilgrims and cyclists who complete the Franciscan Ways will be welcomed by the Pastoral do Turismo, receive a certificate and a special souvenir to mark the memory of their journey forever, and will be able to visit the Sanctuary and the Museum on a guided tour of the site. It is possible to request lunch or coffee with greengrocers in advance from the Church Secretariat.

The beautiful Capela de Santa Clara, in the center of Itambacuri, is a special place for both devotees and those who want to appreciate its architecture. To make the internal visit it is necessary to schedule an appointment with the Franciscan Poor Clares.

Guided Tour at the Casa da Cultura and Frei Agostinho Regional Museum
A trip back to the past, which tells the story of Itambacuri, the Vale do Mucuri Region and the presence of Friars Menores Capuchinhos in the city. Lasting up to 2 hours, the visit is guided by one of the employees of the Municipal Department of Culture and Tourism.

The delicious greengrocers from Minas Gerais owned by Dona Duca and her daughter Roberta are a separate chapter on the Franciscan Ways.

The Angélicas Sisters develop a beautiful work with socially vulnerable children in Itambacuri. They operate in a large space where they welcome the little ones for various activities. They also have an orchard, vegetable garden and a clay oven for the artisanal production of ceramics with artisans from the city.
They offer the tasty Café Angelico with homemade delicacies made on site, which includes a devotional moment to Our Lady followed by a guided tour.
